Genius Hour

Room 7 have been exploring Genius Hour this term. We have such a range of projects running at the moment as each student chases knowledge and skills in their own area of interest. We have students developing websites, creating video tutorials, shaping a surfboard, creating their own skateboard deck, a pinhole camera and electrical gadgets. Health, sport and tourism have also been popular choices with students investigating how they can impact on an issue. We even have someone teaching themselves how to code!
We have also been using SOLO Taxonomy to reflect on our thinking and how far along we have managed to push ourselves, in terms of the project.

Camp - Mud Run

The Mountain Valley Mud Run is definitely a real challenge and Room 7 met it head on. We conquered electric fences, barbed wire, dark tunnels, a water slide, rivers, climbing, gut busting runs, mud and of course plenty of coo pats!

Camp - Cooperative Games

Room 6 & 7 hardly saw each other for the first 48 hours of camp. Cooperative Games was the only big activity we really joined up for. It had six different stations. These consisted of problem solving scenarios involving team work, reasoning and logic.

  1. Quietest team member guiding the rest of the team while they were blind folded
  2. Using planks and safe points to traverse toxic waste
  3. Getting all team members over a rope fence without touching it
  4. Pairs escaping roped up arms
  5. Purple poison where only the person wearing a certain hat could touch the ground
  6. Flipping a groundsheet in unison
